5 day tour: Highlights of Chiang Mai Private Tour

We are proud to present this original 5 day tour which will give you best introduction to Chiang Mai that you could ever imagine. This carefully planned itinerary includes the best places to visit and you will experience the fascinating northern Thai way of life. We will visit temples, rivers, waterfalls, jungles and mountains. You will have a chance to interact with hill tribes, ride elephants, eat (and cook!) our authentic cuisine and see traditional farming and craft making. Your guide will impart knowledge about local history, culture and Thai traditions.

Day 1
We will begin the tour with a 45 minute drive up the mountain to visit Doi Suthep temple; Chiang Mai most sacred temple standing on a hill outside the city 3500 feet above the sea level. The Golden Pagoda can be reached via a 306 steps staircase where you will be able to enjoy a stunning panoramic view of Chiang Mai.
In the afternoon we will leave the city behind as we head to the cool waters of the Ping River; the life blood of northern Thailand. We will travel by long-tail boat on the river and visit a local farmers house. You will learn about the cultivation of rice, vegetables, herbs and spices.

Day 2
In the morning we will drive for an hour to the north to visit Chiang Dao elephant camp, after visiting an orchid farm. You will have the opportunity to ride an elephant through the jungle and see them working in their natural habitat. The camp we will visit treats animals with kindness and respect. Spending time with this magnificent animal is an unforgettable experience. After riding we will have lunch in the wooden Thai style house. You can try local delicious food from a buffet, and sample the ever impressive range of seasonal fruits whilst enjoying the river view. We will take a journey by bamboo raft along the Ping river, passing through the diverse landscapes of the river basin. On the way back to Chiang Mai we will visit a market where you can sample local food.

Day 3
Today we will journey to the south west towards Chom Thong. The route up to Doi Inthanon mountain through the national park is one of the most beautiful roads to drive along in the region, winding its way up slowly to 2,565 meters above sea level; the highest peak in Thailand. On the way we will stop at beautiful waterfalls and the Royal Twin Pagodas. Then we will visit a village and see the lifestyle of the hill tribe people, who migrated from Yunnan and Tibet via Burma to Thailand over the past few centuries. We will return to Chiang Mai in the late afternoon.

Day 4
We will begin the day with a visit to the local fresh market and learn all about the different vegetables, herbs, roots and spices being sold, so you can actually see what the raw products looks like before they are cooked. Then we will continue to Pantawan cooking school which provides cooking classes in an authentic Thai atmosphere. The main focus of the cooking classes is to educate participants on the balance of tastes and health benefits of traditional Thai food. Healthy recipes of popular Thai dishes based on their high nutritional values are selected for each class and participants are shown how to prepare them using traditional cooking methods by an experienced chef.

Day 5
This is our shopping day where you will have the opportunity to visit local craft factories, markets and shops to buy an eclectic range of souvenirs to remind you of your time in Thailand. Take a trip to see traditional umbrella making, silk spinning, basket weaving and wood carving. The umbrella factory is in a village close to Chiang Mai and you can watch the skilful hand production process and choose your own unique design. Silk has a longstanding tradition as one of the finest products in the region and it is fascinating to see how it originates from silk worms. We can also help you to buy any other gifts your interested in and can arrange shipping back to your country.
